7 days and counting.....

www.neslist.is

I can't believe a whole year has gone by since my induction into Icelandic winter life. At the moment, I cannot get off the sofa to plug in my computer, never mind go upstairs to begin the process of packing, unpacking, weighing, repacking and screaming in frustration because the case won't close.

I am off to the far north again, Skagaströnd, a small fishing village on the east coast of the Húnaflói bay. Last year there were around 450 residents, although this changes dependent on whether the fishermen are out at sea or not. If they are, that reduces the population temporarily for a month.

I was there in February last year and the light was short but beautiful. I've just looked up the January sunrises/sunsets and this is what I'm in for:

Wow!!! 3.5 hours of sunlight......

I'm not sure yet what I want to do while I'm there. I had a plan last year but I had no real idea what was in store. This year, I may take some materials with me and play it by ear. I did make some very abstract images which played with the available light so I may work with that idea some more. Anyway, watch this space, book mark the address and I'll try to blog every day from the 3rd of January until my return on the 28th of February. Wish me luck!

ps. Just found this picture of my poor knees, which still haven't fully recovered after falling on ice soon after I arrived last year. This year I have mega brilliant grips x 5 in case I lose any.
